is it true the 98 computer has problems reading certain cams if the lsa is above 110

The PCM doesn't "read" the cam. It has to be tuned for the cam. Where you would probably get into a problem would be the misfire detection, where the PCM might have a problem with the "crank relearn" that helps it determine when a misfire is occurring.
