Re: Common 4th Gen Problems

My first caution to you would be that if your tight for money don't buy a V8 F-body. The insurance and gas are going to be a strain if your only making 200 a week. If you suddenly have to replace a blown water pump and ruined Opti (and you take it to a shop) your looking at $600-$900 anyways. The next thing is tires. You live in Buffalo, if you plan on winter driving it, you will need some really good snow tires. Factor that into your plans if your still going to buy.

Nah, I drive mine in the rain whenever I need too. I will always go around huge puddles though. NEVER get your car washed at a carwash that sprays the bottom of the car. Many have died that way.

But like the poster above, I actually sprayed my old one with a coolant hose (always remember to let the car cool down BEFORE pulling coolant hoses hahaha) and it was just fine.

Well the thing is i am probly only goning to drive it in the summer, i'll drive my moms car in the winter. I want an F-body v8 won't settle for less.. I make around maybe 11,000 thousand a year so i should be able to buy this car and insure it... just be able too... If i get a loan for 2 years or so i could do it but more interest. Well anything else because i am glad someone told me not to go into a carwash that sprays underneath because my sisters both work at a carwash and i could get a discount so now i am going to try to stay away from this. Thanks Anything else would be greatly appriciated. Also I am looking for a 96 Z28/ or an SS, lookinh to spend around 7,000 and mileage around 80,000 or under... has to be a m6 car... but if this anything else anyone can tell me about these car.... Let me know

Have you checked these guys out?

http://www.wnyfbody.com/

Very kwowledgable, very helpful, right in your backyard. If your bent and determined to own an F-body, having fellow enthusiasts to help is invaluable. Check their classifieds section as there are a few cars in your range and specs up for sale. If you have any other questions PM me. I own 2 F-bodies a 96 Z28 thats a garage queen/car show ***** and a daily driven(winter time too) 95 V6 Firebird, and I've had plenty of ownership experience.

Well you won't find an SS for 7k unless you get lucky, but I can definetly see you finding a Z28 with that mileage for that price.

Probably the best resource you'll find in helping you with your car is this forum and ls1tech.com. They're both great resources for these cars. Good luck!

This was a picture of someone's dual exhaust (obviously not stock), but you get the idea. I don't know how many times I have posted this picture, but again, if this is your car and you want the picture taken down just PM me and I will.

Re: Common 4th Gen Problems

Thanks for the pic, so when you go to buy a car can i request to see it under neath on a lift? I would check where to see if the frame is bent? I would look at the gas lines brake lines, rearend to see if it is leaking( the pic looks like the rearend is leaking) I would look for rust every where huh? Any ideas of a good way to check a camaro to see if it is worth buying? Thanks guys

As for the rearend, that is probably just seepage that can be fixed with a gasket/fluid change. Also, if you are unsure of a car's condition, you could always pay a mechanic a few bucks to throw it up on a lift and give it a thorough inspection.

Re: Common 4th Gen Problems

well i work at goodyear and i don't really know if i went to a dealership and asked the salesman if i can see it on a lift, i don't know if they would do that, but i would maybe be able to pull a car on one of the lifts at my goodyear to check under it... if its not busy and the boss is nice. Would they care on a test drive?

I ended up buying my Camaro from a private party, but I checked out several f-bodies at various dealerships. I asked them if they could put the car on a lift so I could see the undercarriage and they did not object.

Wink Re: Common 4th Gen Problems

That good to hear. I just want one that i can rely on, i plan on doing all the work myself if anything comes up. I really don't need any surprises at all... I mean the car payment i have no clue how much that will be but i know insurance is going to be expensive... I mean each month i might only have around 150 bucks to spend for myself.. including gas.. i dunno i just want to pay the car off fast... I don't know anything else to ask. If there is anything someone wants to add go ahead i watch this thread alot... I am probly on this website so much now so .... thanks alot everyone that helped me so far with all this info..... Ooo I know something else.. I don't really plan on doing crazy **** to this car maybe a cam or something like that. So whats a reason to stay away from the 98-02 besides the cost?
