coated headers Vs. header Wrap
coated headers Vs. header Wrap
thinking about headers, and came to the question about coating or noncoating. then the other thing i was thinking about was header wrap.
is there some pros/cons to these header wraps?
casue i havent seen anyone with these on their maro's

Re: coated headers Vs. header Wrap
I have seen a few F-bodies with wrap but the car is not the reason..its just preference. I know some people who think that wrapping headers is ugly but for the ones who dont care how it looks or have a tight budget, wrapping may work just fine..
Re: coated headers Vs. header Wrap
Most people don't use the header wrap stuff cause it holds in alot of moisture when it gets wet and causes the headers to rust, having on for prolonged periods has even rusted holes in the primary tubes.
Re: coated headers Vs. header Wrap
how about wrapping coated headers? my headers still get hot enough to melt the plug boots,so if i can just wrap up the primary's near the flange, id be good to go
Re: coated headers Vs. header Wrap
Just to clarify, the rust with header wrap is not due to "trapped moisture".... its happens because the header tube metal temperature gets so high that the iron in the tubes starts to combine with the oxygen in the air. Yes, its still rust, but its happening because the header tubes are getting too d@mn hot. That heat will also increase cracking, particularly near the welds, and tube cracking due to thermal cycling.
As far as the possibility of fire with header wrap, check with Tom Byrne at T. Byrne Motorsports.... he may still have the pictures of his first 4th Gen toasted to a cinder.
The cera-metallic coatings work because the inner coating reflects the heat into the exhaust gasses. This helps keep exhaust gas velocity high, increasing scavenging (= a bit more HP), and reduces the tube metal temperatures to reduce cracking. Wrapping the outside of the tubes will not accomplish this.
Looks good, too

i used header wrap on my coolant line to heater and on a couple of the boots... justwrapped it arond and threw in a couple stictches.
after having my headers burn my coolant line i figured this was easiest solution to keep from happeneing aagain with out doing anything to headers
