Clunk in reverse

Clunk in reverse

yo guys, i havea 1998 Z and i have an A4. when i put the car in reverse and give it some gas i get this banging clunk that seems to be coming from the rear of the center console. anyone have this problem ?? it also happens if i need to stop abruptly

i have done the trans mount, torque arm bushing, rear driveshaft yoke and u-joint

Everything you mentioned you've done is everything I would have mentioned to do. So that's a tuffy. You are waiting for the car to go "into" reverse before you hit the gas right? If not that most certainly could be the problem, or the cause of it. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess it might be something to do with the tranny. Someone else can probably elaborate more on that. Depends on your mileage and how the car has been driven, but it might be that. Get a reputable tranny shop to check it out or if anything check your fluid and it's color and smell. If it's bad, it might not be a bad idea to change that and the filter. Just some thoughts. thanks. i work at a dealer and have had one of the best techs look at it/do all of the work. i have changed the fluid 3 times in the 2 years i have had it including the filter. only 48k on it now. bought it used with 37k.
