charing problems with LT1 Z28

I am having some charging issues with my car (1996 Z28). It will charge fine sometimes (up to 14.4v according the scanmaster). But it is not steady it will quit charging and drop to 11.xv sometimes. I had the alternator tested and it tested fine. I thought it was maybe a bad connection on the wire going to the battery. I put a new connector on the hot wire that bolts to the back of the alternaotr and that seemed to clear it up at first. It was charging great at 14.4v, but then it went back to doing its on/off thing with charging and not charging. You can even watch the lights get dimmer/brighter as the voltage flucuates.

It doesnt seem to do this with the car sitting still, so I think it may be a short somewhere. Is there any place I should look first? My check guagues light also flashes on and off at random...maybe a short that has something to do with it.

Nah, I have checked the belt and it is good (recently replaced too). Didn't think to have the battery checked, because it is less than a year old. The alternator is actually about the same age too.

I'd check the battery. I've had to replace two batteries in the last year that were less than 10 months old. Both of them were Advance Auto batteries. Luckily I had the warrenty. But, still it was a pain to have to put up with.

This one is an autozone battery...yes I'll admit it, lol. I'll have it checked out since it is free and all.

Consumer Reports just gave Autozone batteries top ratings. I've had one for a while, and no problems.
