Arrow To Cage or not to Cage - This is my question

I am restoring my 86 Camaro. I have many suspension upgrades (subframes, springs, shocks, pahnards, torque arm, sway bar, etc) so traction and handling will not be an issue. I am told that a cage will help improve my traction/suspension and it will also allow me to put in new Recaro Seats with a 5 pt seat belt, which I want.

The only thing holding me back is that I feel a car with a cage is not a true "street car". Does anyone else feel the same way??

I have a six point welded bar. A full cage is not wanted in a street vehicle. Too many bars close to the head for someone not wearing a helmet. I think I found a reasonable compromise and with high back kirky seats and a 5-point I don't have to worry about hitting the main hoop.

I didn't even realize the helmet issue. I think my best bet is to get a hold of Ricaro and find out what they can give me.

Kirky is the brand of seats that you have?

I'm sort of disappointed that my car is no longer street driven. When the roll bar went in, it seemed like everything changed.... it wasn't a street car any more. I just helped George Baxter sell his 8.6-second 30th SS convertible. He said that the car was a lot more fun when it was street driven. Seems like putting the roll bar in puts you past the point of no return......

Just an observation.

I think you can have a perfectly streetable car with a rollbar in it. A cage? No, for the reasons stated about the bars being too close to your head.

That is exactly what I am afraid of. I don't want to feel hesitated to take the car out on the street for any reason.

I've got an 6-point with no swingouts, and I don't have any problems driving it on the street. However, I've noticed that the kids have started fighting over who has to sit in the back now.

p.s. the roll bar is now fully padded, especially the cross bar. Next year the cross bar will be removable and will feature two additional mointing points that triangulate to the driveshaft tunnel. That way I can install it for competition and remove it for the street.
I just need to finish the drawings for the couplers and turn it into the machine shop.

I got a 10 point.. S&W it goes in the dash instead of in front of it.. Street Driven.. Of course.. Safe.. I like to think of Pro Street On a budget.. I dont' have kids so the backseat isn't a problem, two kids would be able to get back there and sit.. But I mostly put a coat, or a cooler.. back there.. If I had a dog I might put it back there.. I am even going to polish(sp) most of the bar this winter and clear coat it.. I tucked mine real close to the headliner and the a-pillars and I like the look when I take my t-tops off.. It looks mean...

Thanks for all the info everyone. I am going to go without it and see how it works out.
