Burnouts...car bogs, but no TCS ??
Re: Burnouts...car bogs, but no TCS ??
when i had my 96 ta, i would just leave it in D and it had enough power to keep the tires spinning as long as i wanted them to. know i have a m6, so i just put it in 2nd...get the rpms to like 4500, and dump the clutch..works great. lol.

There's nothing wrong with your car. Your tires are getting warm and gripping the road as you spin them, and your car doesn't make enough power to overcome the friction and bogs down. My car and every car I've ever owned have done the exact same thing. If you want to do great burnouts, get a set of used GSC's(O.E. tire) and burn those off. They don't grab worth a damn and make tons of smoke.

Being an M6, I don't see why your car is doing that with any tire. When I have my BFG DR's mounted, I can burn them for as long as I like on dry pavement in first or second gear.

Can the 4L60E's shift into third even when held in D2? I'm not sure, but that definately is a possibility. I can't say that I've ever tried a brakestand in my car, but if I dump it second it will spin and then grab rather quickly once I start moving a little, especially on a decent road surface. I have a little suspension work done too, and my car hooks up great both on the street and the track. Usually when i do a burnout I just keep it in first and ride it out, as 200 foot black marks are more impressive(at least to me) than a foot of inch thick rubber on the ground. Maybe he should try keeping the RPM's around 5K or so to prevent any unwanted upshifting.

Car's with 2.73's don't have a selectable first gear (D1), as the gear whine was deemed by GM engineers to be too excessive with 2.73 rear end gears. A4 cars with 3.23's do have a selectable first gear. When he puts his car in the lowest selectable gear for him, (D2), his car will start brake-standing in first gear, but once the rpm's start to climb, the transmission will shift into second gear, not third. An easy way around this, is just to remove the rubber piece that blocks out first gear, (D1), and that way he can hold it all day long without it shifting into second.

That makes perfect sense. For some reason I thought that people were throwing around the idea that it was shifting into third, which would almost definately cause it to bog down.
