most people including myself don't live next to a track there for are not good drivers. i want a car that will run 13 flat with me blindfolded. there are several people on this board that run 13 flat with the mods i mentioned. (not all of us beat the tar out of our cars). i would like to here your ideas of what mods to make and just how fast you think it would go so the board can tell you what they think. ps stock the magazines claim 13.8 for a z28 and 13.5 for a SS or ws6. and rapidmotorsports test car was a 99 z28 i think.

Ask all the LS1 owners on this board what their cars ran stock. There will be a very very large # in the 13.3-13.5 range. Some a little faster, some a little slower. Then there will be a couple really really good drivers getting high 12's, and the poor or first time at the track drivers getting high 13's-low 14's. The LS1 was claimed to run 13.8 in the 1/4 but it was also claimed to have 305 hp too and we all know that's pretty much underrated. Not to mention having a track close to where you live doesn't exactly classify you as a good driver. There are several several drivers out there who have never been to the track and they can just about out drive anyone. Getting a lot of practice in at the track would obviously make you a better driver, and more efficent at getting good #'s, but it doesn't mean you can't drive well if you've never been. And what about the A4 guys. I have an auto and although having decent skill at control of the car under wheel spin is probably critical all I have to do is wait for the green light and floor it. Not a lot of "skill" really required like an M6 car. The original poster asked which LS1 year was best to mod! which doesn't necessarily mean he has to beat on his car like you mentioned. But I'm guessing he wanted to mod it and drive it like it was(even if only at the track or on the occasional back road). Just because a car is modded doesn't mean it's been beat on, or has to be beat on, but to be honest, that's what these cars were made for, their performance. All I was making reference to was your 13 flat comment. There are a lot of people with LS1's getting into the mid 12's with minimal mods, much less than the 3k reference. Try Lid,cutout,LT's,3600rpm stall(A4 of course)and a set of 3.73's. That would get somewhere around 3 grand give or take and I would say are the common first few mods people go with. Depending in the brand you choose, wether you pay to get it installed or not, etc. But you get the idea. If I can't get low to mid 12's out of that setup than something is seriously wrong. Obviously by this point traction would almost certainly be the biggest issue, so take decent traction into account for this situation. I think there are even a couple LS1 owners on this board with similar mods to the ones I mentioned and their in the high 11's. Take say the 3.73's away and the car is stock with 3.23's, now replace the $$ paid for the gears and add a nice cam. Now it's a whole new ballgame. Get a different rpm stall, blah blah. I could go forever. Back to my original point. Adding 3 grand in mods to an LS1 and you better be achieving much better than 13 flat. If that happened to me I'd probably sell the car out of disgust.
