Automatic down power windows

Hi my '95 Z28 'Vert drivers side window does not have the automatic power down function anymore. Isn't it supposed to have this function or have I sniffed too many fumes? If it is supposed to have the auto down function, what might make it stop working?

Re: Automatic down power windows

The switch on the door is pretty much the part that makes it work. It might be bad. I think there is a mark on it to indicate it is a automatic down bottom, unlike the other window. Its a cheap part and easy to replace. If the windows work, personally I would leave it like it is. JMO

P.S. back when I was rich and single, I replaced mine just because the white was coming off, even though it worked perfectly.

its pretty tricky to get it to go down by itself. mine, at least, wont do it unless the window is all the way up to begin with. then you need to hold down the switch a short amount of time. its around half a second to a second in my case. you might just be doing it wrong, lol

It could be the express down module. There is nothing different about the switch in the door that does anything. The express down module does the sensing for the extended down press of the button.

Thanks for the info guys. I had looked for somekind of module in wiring diagrams but didn't see it. I'm thinking there's no repair on the module only replacement.

Re: Automatic down power windows

I think my aging window motor might have killed mine. The express down suddenly stopped working not too long ago when the motor started struggling more. i just got through replacing my window motor and still no express down.

If you are good with electronics, you might be able to troubleshoot/fix the module. I don't have the expertise to do it.

Re: Automatic down power windows

The module is sealed, w/key on check pin C on harness for +12v from fuse and then pin A for +12v from the LH down switch depressed. When the module is activated it holds +12V on pin D to the motor after the down switch is released. That's about all you can check. When module sees +12v down for about a second it picks an internal relay, the module has an internal resistor setup that senses the window motor has stalled (all the way down) and that resets the relay. If you motor is drawing higher current than normal it may be thinking it's all the way down. It can cut out before the manual switch operation current cutout (motor stalled) built into the window motor that is normally used to stop the window if you hold the button after it's down. Remember pin D that runs the motor down gets +12V from the switch through the express relay N/C points and then gets +12 V from the relay after activation from the relay N/O points, If D goes to ground after a 1 second depression then releasing the down switch, the module relay is not activating, or is being cut off by high current. Is your window sluggish ??
