alot of air in the cooling system. *car pics*

lately the car starts to run at high temps after its been running for id say 20 mins,,temps reach 230 to 250...and sometimes higher...i open the bleed valves..and stand there for a while waiting for all the air to come out of the system...then i check the temp gauge and its around 210 to 220....but then i run the car again..the same thing happens..i was thinkin there was a prob' with the heater coil..anybody with some i deas of were the air can be coming in to the system from...??

How many times have you had to bleed the air out? Are you sure you're not losing water somewhere?

Umm..yeah, I have an idea, but you won't like it, and I hope I'm wrong. Blown head gaskets could cause this type of problem. I have heard two arguments on this one, some people say LT1's blow head gaskets all the time, I have heard others say no. It is my opinion that these engines are not prone to head gasket problems. The sure way to check is to take your car to a garage that has emissions testing equipment, and have them use the exhaust gas probe to "sniff" the gas (air) that is venting from your cooling system, if the spectrometer tests positive for combustion (exhaust) gases present in your cooling system, then you do have a compromised head gasket, and they will need to be replaced. If it tests negative then you will have to look somewhere else for your problem. Good luck, and keep us informed.

almost everytime i drive the car for a while, i have to re-bleed the system of alot of air...but we noticed that under the dash on the passerger side there was a huge darker spot..not really moist but it didnt feel like the rest of the carpet..do camaros usually have a lil bit of white smoke come out of the exhaust..?would the car run the same with a blown head gasket, would i hear diffrent noises from the engine?

about how much would it cost to take the car and get the smoke tested? ive also heard that it is not really easy to blow a head gasket on these cars, unless you run it with the water pump or fans not working properly.

Could be the heater core leaking if there's a dark spot under the dash on the passenger side.. Check that first... If you remove the glove box, you'll see a rounded cover that covers the heater core... You can take off that cover and the heater core is right there.

Re: alot of air in the cooling system.

Rami,an easy/cheap way to check for blown head gaskets is to use a squirt bottle of water in a "stream" to each header tube of on the exhaust manifold close to the exhaust port. When the water hits the header/manifold it will evaporate almost instantly, until you get to the one where/if the coolant is leaking in the cylinder(s),then water will burn off conciderably slower.

Re: alot of air in the cooling system.

hey a way to fill it up is to take off the hose that connects to the water pump and fill it up from there till the water is almost overflowing from the waterpump. Then put ur tstat back and then let the car get warm and then start filling up the radiator..

BUT be sure to connect everything back together before starting it.

A blown head gasket can increase the pressure in the coolant system causing leaks....even in the heater core...

A blown head gasket can cause coolant to be drawn into the cylinder that has been compromised, coolant burns white and causes white smoke to come out of the exhaust, coolant or water are normally the only elements in an internal combustion engine that will cause white particulate....time to pull your plugs, the light brown/abnormally clean plug is the bad cylinder, good idea above about spraying water....

It depends on how bad the head gaket is damaged as to how performance is effected. Yes it could have a blown head gasket, yet not run appreciably worse or make any strange noises. You have pretty much listed all of the common symptoms that occur when a head gasket has failed.
