95 Z28 trans lock won't release
Had put a UMI K member in and a new cam took the whole front end down. Now put it back together and need to move the car. The trans won't shift out of park. Hooked the starter and battery up and still nothing. I know there's a simple answer but just can't think of it. Any help??? Looked on Shoebox site and must be looking past it.
It's an 4L60E btw.

Yea I got stuck at PepBoys with the shifter in park. Finally released in front of the service technician while demonstrating It was stuck. I don't know what locks it up but still curious. I don't like doing the panic pull on the shifter just to move the car.

There's a solenoid on the front of the shift lever assembly that prevents shifting out of "PARK" unless the brake pedal is depressed (key must be in "RUN" position). There are several electronic components in the path between both the positive and negative side of the solenoid. There are trouble-shooting tables in the factory manual, for 1995 starting at page 8A-138-0. Free download of factory manuals, courtesy of GaryDoug:

Primary suspect on the positive side is the "Brake Switch Assembly". Could also be the "Ignition Switch" not completing the circuit. On the ground side, the "Transmission Range Switch" is in the circuit, along with an "Isolation Diode". Several connectors, a pass-through and several splices in both side of the circuit. The problem can also be the result of the shifter linkage and shifter cable binding.
