Shifter Button Won't Go Down

I have a '95 Z28 with an automatic transmission and lately the shifter button won't go down to shift from park unless I put all my weight on it. After it's out of park I can push it down with just my thumb like usual. It use to do it once in a while, which I think it's supposed to as some security thing, but now it does it everytime.
What's wrong with it and how can I fix this?
Thanks.

In this picture, you will see an orange strap looking thing that keeps an electrical plug secured. This part is your problem. You can A) replace it. B) unplug it. By unplugging it, you lose the safety of having to press on the brake to shift out of park which may be hazardous if you have kids that like to play in the car when you aren't looking. BTW, I unplugged mine and have had no problems since.
