93 camaro Starter? problems

I have a 93 camaro, V6 3.4l engine. Battery was dead so I tried to jump start it. The starter is turning over but it doesn't sound normal. It sound more like an electric motor turning, not an electric motor turning over an engine (if that makes sense)
I also noticed that the crankshaft would only move about an inch , stop, move another inch, stop, etc...

I'm thinking some of the starter teeth are chewed up. I'm guessing if it were the flywheel, the crank stop start wouldn't be so uniform and it would at least try to catch.

Thoughts? What else should I check if it were you?

Take the battery somewhere that can load test it. Autozone can do it.

Re: 93 camaro Starter? problems

so, it looks like the flexplate is broken. We took the dust cover off and the flexplate is definitely moving. However, the center where it bolts to the crank isn't moving at all. I can see cracks in the plate as well.

Next question, can I push the rans back a few inches to get the flexplate out or do I really have to pull the trans?
