91 rear hatch pull-down unit failure

The pull-down unit on my 91 Camaro would not fully close and lock today, but the motor kept running and now seems to have burned itself up. I have loosened the unit from the body, but can not figure out how to disconnect the lock cable connection from the lock cylinder. Does anyone know how to get the cable apart from the cylinder? I am sure that it is a simple procedure, but I have not been able to figure it out. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, does anyone know a good place to purchase one of these units at a decent price?

Thanks for the help.

ok in the trunk behind the carpeting in the big open area where the trunk closing mechanism is there are some wires going into that mechanism, theres a black tipped couple of wires like with a rectangular tip on it. theres one on each side, from the back of the car it would be the one on ur left just pull that apart from your closing mechanism. no more noise?? let me know if u need me to explain better. i just got my 91 firebird and same problems.

Thanks for the reply. I ended up having to buy a new motor for mine, and the replacement was a little hard, but I got it done. The only thing I wish I would have done better was sanding done the four plastic glides so the unit would open and close easier. Hope you don't end up having to replace your motor unit.
