new ditributor new wires new plugs, smells like gas when i try and start it and it turns over, any thoughts?

 

Possible fuel pump issue, check your injector fuses as well, what's the story on your ignition coil? Mine was just doing the same thing.

 

ignition coil is good i also replaced that, fuses look good, but havn't checked anything fuel related since i havn't had any problems with it..

 

Does your fuel pump prime normally? Like it doesn't prime slowly/sluggishly?

 

What does "prime" mean?

 

Did you just install the (Optispark) distributor? If so, has it never started since you installed it? Is it possible you indexed the splined Opti drive shaft incorrectly to the cam sprocket?

"Prime" means the fuel pump runs for a couple seconds when you turn the key to "run".

 

yeah with 1994 the opti spark spline can only go in one way and i have had it running with it. When i had it running it took a couple turns for the car to start, especially when it was warmed up.

 

Actually, about 10% of the people who install the splined shaft manage to get it indexed incorrectly.... much easier to do than it appears.

But if you had it started and running AFTER you did the install, its probably OK.

Describe EXACTLY what happens when you turn the key to the run position. The term "turns over" means different things to different people. Does the starter crank the engine? Does the engine do anything - cough, sputter, backfire - or just "turn over" with no sign of anything firing?
