Ok, my 3.1 is overheating and idle is off. Car barely starts up. I just had new spark plugs and wires put on it. I ws wondering if it could be the egr valve?

Please do not repost within 20 minutes, particularly near midnight (EST) when there's not as many people on the board. General guideline is to wait 24 hours before pushing your post back to the top.

My first guess would be a faulty coolant temperature sensor, not giving the ECM the correct engine temp. An EGR valve that is stuck open will cause it to idle poorly, or even stall. But it isn't going to make it overheat.

Under what conditions does it overheat - at idle in heavy traffic, at freeway speeds, under wide open throttle, all of the above? Can you hear the fans come on?

Have you scanned it for codes? That would be a good place to start?

 

its overheating on all of the above.

 

i mean it is idling heaving on all of the above and is overheating in traffic at lower rpm.
