Is my Fuel Pump going to die?

What are the symptoms of a dying fuel pump? I have had the car just up and die on me 4 times while i was warming it up in the last week. I have been running a fuel gauge on it since and it hasn't died with it attached. I believe there are signs before the total failure.

Next time the car does sputter and die, keep a close eye on the fuel pressure gauge. If you are able to rule out a fuel related issue, then start your diagnostics elsewhere.

Speaking of dying fuel pumps, is it true that one should not run their gas tank below 1/4. I do that all the time and some people have told me that I am killing my pump. Is that true?

The fuel pump is cooled by the gas in the tank. More fuel in the tank means the fuel pump stays cooler which is likely to prolong its life.

Keeping your gas tank above a 1/4 tank is a rather cheap way to avoid a very costly and time consuming repair.

I've heard that if you run out of gas that is really bad on the pump also. It's been below 30 here so i would guess your not in real trouble but when its 100+ a 1/2 tank or better would really help.
