high idle please help
I just got my car dynotuned and it ran great. But i noticed that after i left the place, when i would come to a stop it would idle really low after the car was warm. It has the hotcam in it... Anyhow, well i thought it was normal since it was cammed. It would idle at around 550 ish to 600 after it was warm and would make the car shake. At one point after i put it in reverse it shut off. So i called the guy at the dyno place and told him. He said it was probably needed more timing and something about the IAC, so he bumped up the idle at around 1100 at idle and at 900 ish in drive. and it was fine. But after i left the place once again after it warmed up. The idle in drive stays at like 1000.
Is that normal? any suggestions? I know i dont have a vacuum leak. And the only thing i can think of is a bad IAC motor.. But they are so dam expensive....

Not sure what you mean by expensive but here is a list from $10 and up.

hey N4B thanks.... but i have a question. Most of the ones i see there on ebay are for a 6 cyl camaros.....Are they the same for the 5.7 throttle bodies? and when i say expensive are because i called my local parts stores... and they have two.. One for cars that come with oil cooling system and the ones without.. Mine is without from what i understand and that IAC cost 115 dollars.... Thats why i am hoping someone here can help me out... maybe sell me a decent working one as i think mine is stock since i bought the car...
..I'm running 800 D / 850 N/P w/stock heads and block. Timing is 32* in the 400-1200 idle timing settings. Before tune it would just about stay running at stock 550 D/650 N/P RPM and 20* settings. Would be nice to know your IAC counts and idle timing to see what's holding it at 1K in D. With your mods it's a balance between, closed TPS timing, idle speed settings and TPS=0% voltage setting to achieve a smoother idle. Have you tried cleaning the IAC valve plunger and IAC valve seat in the TB. ref shoebox http://shbox.com/1/iac3.jpg
When i took it to the shop i took it because it was idling too low in drive to the point where the car shook and turned off on me at one point when i put it in reverse... I also liked the lopey sound of the cam which i dont have now..... After i took it again,,,,My symptoms are now, i turn the car on and idle shoots up to like 2000-2100 RPM and slowly comes down to 1000-1100.... Then when i put in drive, it stumbles down to like 600 and quickly comes back and sits at around 900 then slowly climbs to 1000 and sits there... The same goes for putting it in reverse.. As i drive it i accelerates by itself slowly... so i thought it was a vaccum leak or something getting stuck in the throttle body... but i dont know... I really dont have access to any scan tool that would be able to tell me that. But My idle numbers where exactly like your before i took it in to get tuned in the first place... I got it dyno tuned at SLP in newlennox here in IL..... Like i said i just went for the second time and Mike told me it probably needed adjusting on the IAC to open up some more and more timing etc etc.. and I dont know what else he did. It took him about 10 minutes on his laptop. He bumped the idle and it was fine. But after i left the shop, it started idling too high in drive after i got home. I dont mind 1000-1100 in park. But in Drive im at about 1000 Flat and just not right. Plus its wierd that i let go of the gas pedal and the car slowly starts to accelerate for no reason....
That is why i was thinking it might be my IAC or TPS or something.. I have no clue. I already sprayed Carbon choke cleaner to see if i had any leaks and i found NONE. I am almost tempted to take it back and have him bump it down a little more, But i hate the fact that after i leave the place it starts acting wierd on me again.
Please Anyone whos experienced these symptoms help, before i take it to the place and make a fool of my self... asking him to bump it up and then down and never stays at where its normal.... GRRRR

i don't know if this will help. but when i first got my camaro i had the same problem when i started the car the idle would shoot up to 2 thousand rpms and then slowly go down to 1500 in park. then when i put it in gear it would stay at about 1200 rpms. i ended up having a intake manifold leak and the previous owners set the adjustment way out on the throttle body. its really easy to fix just take the throttle body off and take a torqs bit. back the screw off that holds the butterflys open. you'll just have to play around with the positioning
