general msd/ignition question

ive got a 94 z28 that i put a cc503 and comp valvetrain in, along with longtubes and such. since i did the swap my car has been running really rich, ive been replaceing the spark plugs everytime i change the oil. when i go WOT in 1st the car will run good but feels sluggish then normally around 5k or so it will clear out and just run perfect (sometimes it will do it before 5k rpms it kinda varies). im thinking that the car is loading up and was looking into an aftermarket ignition. with a 6al would i just be about to hook it up and it adjusts itself to the spark i need? also would i benefit by replacing the coil first, i still have the stock coil on it? or could this all go back to the opti which i replaced 20k ago? if it helps i have taylor otvc wires and they all seem fine. most the time when im driving it feels like the car is running on 6 cylinders except for the rare times when it clears out but will go right back to missing but its not bad enough to keep me from driving.

If the engine is running rich enough to foul the plugs, fix the problem that's causing it to run rich. Makes no sense at all to put a band-aid like a multiple spark ignition on it to help it fire an overly rich mixture. Rich mixture costs you HP, whether it fires or not.

If you don't have a tune, get one. Also check your O2's since those can go bad from new headers because of the coating.

The best thing you can do is get it scanned and see what your fuel trims are doing. The aftermarket ignition boxes aren't adjustable, they just add more spark. They're only really good if the stock ignition is limiting you or if you're running nitrous.

Recheck all your wires for cuts, burns, or mis-routing as well.

ok i see your point, but what kind of place could i take my car to that would be able to check the fuel maps and pinpoint my problem. i live in a smaller town in kentucky the closest dyno is an hour and 1/2 away and they arnt very reputable, memphis is 3 hours from here and they have the closest well known shop. could a service center check it for me like a Carneeds or something like that.

Call around and see if anyone has a Tech 2 scanner. That can read your fuel trims and someone who knows what they're looking at should be able to tell you what your problem is.
