Fuel pump testing

This is a 94 z28 m6, full bolt ons nothing to fancy. Randomly this morning it wouldn't start. I went through the opti test procedure everything tests ok. I get spark. I can kinda here the pump come on in the tank like a small clicking noise not the normal run for 2 seconds and shut off. I gave the prime connector 12v nothing happens. I barely get any fuel out of the hose going into the filter. The relay is fine also. Is there anything else I can check. My fuel gauge also went nuts and reads way over full. I really don't to put another fuel pump in it if it isn't bad. This would be my 5th one. Any suggestions as to why my pump would burn up so quickly. I always fill up at half a tank and don't buy cheap gas. I'm using dephi fuel pumps. I know thats a lot but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

it is like every 6 months its getting old. The first 3 I had a shop do because I had to many other projects going. They were all done under warranty. The last 2 I have dropped the tank and did myself. Cleaned the tank both times to. I have never heard of a sending unit burning up a pump. But wouldn't doubt if its possible.

The fact that the gauge went above full at the same time the pump died may be pointing to a problem with the harness connector above the rear axle.

think I might have found one of the problems. the ground wire that connects from the tank and level sender is melted at the plastic connector on the sending unit itself.

I wonder what caused it to draw that much current? Is this an aftermarket pump, like a Racetronix or Walbro pump? If so, do you have the hotwire harness on it?

its a delphi, I'm going to run through all the wiring before I put it all back together. This thing was a mess when I bought it a couple years ago so god knows what I will find.
