so i,ve been researching ths for like 2 hours now and all i cam up wit is my camaro has problems that no one else has.
my first problem is i have no idea what the black line goes to, come froms, or even attaches to. or even what the hell it is. and my other NEW problem is if you notice in the pic, my fuel pump is not centered in the retaining ring. why, i have no idea. it is a aftermarket pump that i bought from napa to replace. i bought the whole sending unit. what i have done so far is i lifted the pump out and bent up those two tabs that are on the sending unit so that they go in the cut outs for them and stay in better cause the miss if i didn't bend them up and the pump will be able to rotate clockwise. it just moves forward and backwards. no rotating. but when i tighten down the ring the pump can move from side to side or forwards and backwards. the ring to sending unit has about 1/8" gap. no lie. and my car reaks of gas. do i have o shim it, get a new sending unit, get a new ring, or just ATV it up?
if need a better pic just ask and i will get one better

Read the post "stickied" at the top of the LT1/LT4 Engine Tech forum, regarding the policy on forcing a thread to the top ("TTT") without waiting at least 24 hours for responses. Waiting 15 minutes and pushing it back up is ridiculous.

The pump assembly and pickup filter is slightly spring-loaded and presses on the bottom of the tank, which in-turn causes the lid with tubes to push-up.
Therefore you have to use some minor finesse and press down the lid and center the O-ring. Then place the ring bracket in place and start the nuts on the studs while holding the lid down. Maybe you need and extra set of hands (a helper).
You are apparently tightening the ring bracket without having the lid centered and down in-place.

i did have a helper and i tightened and removed the nuts about 10x and nothing. i bent the ring to get closer. still nothing. there is just a big gap. i kno i've posted something like this before but not about it not seating. but i did mention the gas smell but i just found this out.

Just a heads up, if you use rtv silicone the gas will eat it and you will clog the new pump. Something in the re-assembly just hasnt gone right. Did you try loosening the fuel tank straps to see if a little more clearance would help you out?
