Fuel Pump Replacement

Hello. I need some help. Majorly.

We recently acquired a 96 SS (hallelujah) and unfortunately it left me on the side of the road freezing two nights ago. My husband looked at it today and diagnosed the problem as the fuel pump. Between us we've had about 10 Z's, but have never run into fuel pump trouble. Could someone PLEASE explain the steps to changing it?? Since weve never had this problem before, we don't really know what he's getting into. I would greatly appreciate anyone who can help. Happy holidays!!

It makes it a whole lot easier to cut a trap door in the hump where the above the gas tank. Search around to find the dimensions on where to cut the hole. Make sure you put a board or something under your cutting tool so it only goes deep enough to cut the metal and not the fuel lines or tank. Racetronix makes a kit that comes with a 255 walbro and a booster harness that is really nice. Once i had the hole cut it was pretty straight forward on installing the pump. Im pretty sure there is a writeup on here on installing it if you need any further help.

My prayers are with you, as I just had to do this recently. I didnt want to cut up my hatch, so I did it the hard way.( droping the stablizers, springs, etc. and bent the neck on the tank to get it out. It was AWESOME!!!) If you plan on doing any mods to the car, i.e. over 350hp, you might want to upgrade the pump, or put in a in-line booster to avoid having to go through this lovely process again.
