Fuel pump noise?

I have a 1994 Z28 with 250,000+ miles on it. The fuel pump is original. In the last few months it has started to whine or squeal when the fuel level is low and only as I am braking hard. The pressures are normal and the car runs fine. Anyone have any experience like this? I suspect I will need to replace the pump. Thanks.

Fuel pumps need to be cool

Our F body pumps last longer and run quieter when the tank is kept above half. The gasoline acts like a ice blanket on the submersed pump. Keep your tank reasonably full.

The fuel pump is located inside of a 'bucket' which is always kept full by the return line, regardless of fuel level.

I was thinking maybe the bucket could be messed up, but it really doesn't move around, and I've never heard anyone on the forums with that type of problem. In either case with 250K and a whining pump I think you'll be cutting a trap door fairly soon. Just for drill if it's the bucket let us know..
