Fuel pump assembly ground wire melted
Fuel pump assembly ground wire melted
Well, I've been having issues with my fuel pump sounding like crap (sounds like something is growling in the tank when it primes), the sending unit not working, and the fuel pump not always supplying the needed pressure. I pulled the pump out the other day to find that the ground wire going into the connector (that connects to the prongs that send the wires outside the tank) was melted. It is evident that the wire got way too hot at the connector and even melted the connector around where the ground wire pin goes inside of it (melted the insulation about 1/4" down from the pin). That plastic piece is toast. I'm trying to figure out how this could happen. I'm running a Walbro 255 (340) and didn't know if running the bigger pump with stock wiring would cause such a thing. Or, is the pump bad and drawing too many amps? I figured I'd ohm the pump, but does anyone know what kind of resistance I should see? Finally, where do I get new pins and a connector to fix the melted stuff? I appreciate the help.
