Fuel gauge and low fuel levels

I have a 1994 z28 with a 383 stroker. One day the gas gauge inched its way up(while driving) to past the full line and then it stalled. I found out that the fuel line from the fuel pump to the sending unit came off....explains why it stalled. Now the fuel gauge is still past full and if I fill my car up, 15.5 gallons, I can only drive about 150 miles before it "acts" like it ran out of gas. Not sure if any of ya'll have heard of this.

Here is a procedure to test the sending unit in the tank ref shbox.com . Does your tank still have the bucket installed, it holds fuel during turns, etc when the tank is low.. http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#fuel_gauge

Im not sure where or what the bucket is. I havent tested the gauge yet, but really im concerned with the car running out of gas when it has gas in it, i can fill it up everytime i leave but if you park on a slanted drive way or hill, who knows if the tank is slanted enough for the car not to start.

The stock fuel pump is mounted inside a plactic housing, commonly referred to as a bucket as it's purpose is to help eliminate fuel starvation problems when the fuel tank is low. The fuel return line dumps fuel into this bucket thus keeping fuel near the fuel inlet at all times.
