Fuel Filter
Fuel Filter
Do i really need a fuel pressure gauge to relieve gas pressure in the fuel lines in order to install a new filter??? I just want to put it in already without having to wait to buy this damn thing.
I removed the gas cap to relieve the tank pressure and then let the car sit for a couple hours and i had only minor spills. A gauge is only useful if the line is under pressure and since the system drains after time you have very little if any.
You would use the fuel pressure gauge more or less to test the integrity of the fuel system, not to do a maintenance repair of a fuel filter swap. I just uncapped the gas cap to relieve the pressure. Otherwise, when you break the lines to get the fuel filter off, you will be taking a bath in gas.
Removing only the gas cap only, does not relieve pressure in the lines. If it has been sitting for a while there may be little pressure left in the lines, anyway. Mine will still have some pressure 12 hrs or more after the engine is turned off.
