Draining gas tank. Fuel pump prime connector?

I need to drain my gas tank and after checking the forums, I see you can turn on the fuel pump by jumping the fuel pump prime connector with the battery.

I see the fuel pump prime connector but what do I put in it to make a connection? Once I connect the fuel pump prime connector to the battery, does the key need to be turned on in the car?

Probably dumb questions but I'm having problems picturing this in my head.

You merely jumper +12v to the prime connector. Nothing else.

So I can stick a paper clip into the end of the connector and take a piece of wire with allegator clips on both ends, attach one end to the paper clip and one end to the positive battery tetminal and the fuel pump should come on?

Somehow I feel I'm either over simplifying this or over thinking it

I was able to drain the tank almost completely using a siphon tube.

If you have a stock pump, it might not survive reaching the point where it's running dry.

Just don't let the +12v wire ground out.
