'94 z28 stumbling, missing, backfiring

I am having problems with my camaro if anyone could help!!! when accelerating, the car stumbles and hesitates especially when going uphill. It also backfires when accelerating too. I have tried almost everything. New plugs and wires, injectors tested, new fuel pump and filter.I took it to get scanned and it came back to be the distributor, cap and rotor, and an outragious price ($1,000ish). I will be getting it replaced, but could it be anything else?? Is there anything else that i should do along with this replacement??? HELLLLPPPPPP!!!!!!

I think there are some good replacement systems that do away with the high voltage side of opti system (usually the reason for failure) that are a little cheaper than 1000. My dad put one by delteq on a few years ago and it seemed to work great. I'm not sure if they are still in business though. Also, I have heard of people trying to use the Ford EDIS. I don't know if any progress has been made or if its a dead idea though.

If its a bad opti I would say you need to replace it before the delteq system would work. There is a great thread on this site for detecting if there is a bad opti ( https://www.camaroz28.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=601565 ) thanks to gripenfelter and shoebox. That would be a preventative maintenance I guess, but not a bad idea I don't think except for $$'s. I'm pretty new to this so if it doesn't help sorry, but if it does great .

You can by a new AC Delco Optispark online for about $400. Do not even consider any other brand. You can install it yourself in a couple hours. $1,000 is ridiculous, but that's what dealers do, charging you over $500 list price for the Opti, then hosing you on the labor.

You do not need any sort of replacement system on a stock engine. The Delteq turned out to be a dog, with many problems. The designer/owner supposedly got sick about 3 years ago, and that is the last anyone heard from Delteq. No replacement parts available. Website is still there, but not active.

Bailey Engineering makes a far superior system called the LTCC, using 8 LS1 type coils.

But removing the high voltage from the Opti may not cure the OP's specific problem, if the problems are being caused by the optical cam position sensor. That's why you need to check the codes. The Delteq and the LTCC require a healthy cam position sensor in the Opti to function.

To TOTALLY eliminate the Opti, go to EFIConnection and look at their 24X system, using a complete LS1 PCM and the 8 LS1 coils. A bit pricey, and totally unnecessary for anything other than an all out performance motor.
