Yet another question on my Powerdyne install...
Yet another question on my Powerdyne install...
Ok, this one will probably sound really stupid, but here it goes...
As I mentioned in a previous post (thanks for all of the help!), I'm in the process of installing a 6lb Powerdyne unit in my '97 Formula WS6. I've got the unit installed and I'm doing the intake work now. Maybe it is because I'm coming off of a WS6, where the filter is under the scoops (so I never had a "standard" intake to reference, but I'm just not seeing how the SC intake tubes get routed and where the filter is supposed to end up with the supercharger in place! The Powerdyne instructions are just awful, only really apply to a 95 Camaro and the pictures in it are small, dark and of almost no use. Can anyone please describe to me how the intake tubes get routed from the back of the SC (or if you have any decent pics, that would be fantastic)?
Thanks again!
Mark

Do you know where a cold air intake filter sits?
Its the same spot, only coming in from down low, not through the top, in the box infront of the driver side wheel. You should have had to move the cruise control i think while your in there.

With the car up on jackstands (or ramps) and your head under the car with your left shoulder near the drivers side tire, the tubing comes down from the SC intake via a plastic "top hat" piece. It then makes a 90 degree bend forward and slightly toward the driver side turn signal. Remove the driver side plastic splash panel (about 10 screws with a couple holding the front spoiler) and you will open up a medium size area underneath the headlight. This area is where the MAF and air filter will be residing once the install is complete. You will have to trim the plastic splash panel slightly to get it back into place. You will also have to slightly relocate the cruise control black box on the fram e rail under the splash panel. Once the install is complete the tubing will run down from the SC intake, turn forward toward the radiator and then angle over toward the front splash panel area. The MAF and air filter will be covered by the splash panel once it is reinstalled (and make sure you do reinstall it sometime. You might wait a day or two while completing the install just to make sure things are tight and not leaking before reinstalling the splash panel.
One other thing, since you have a Firebird you will need to make a filter cover that keeps rain and water from flowing down the hood and coming through to drip on the air filter at the headlight seam. Some people have used a bleach bottle cut in half and zip tied over the filter. I went to a hobby store and got some thin gauge plastic sheet and just cut a piece about 15"W x 18" L and slid it up and over the filter. It is pressed in there pretty firmly and holds itself in place.
Sorry ... no digital camera ... no pictures of my install. If you have any detailed questioned you would like to ask me in particular please send me an email. I tend to say a lot and hate to take up a lot of space here.
Later ... Larry S.

Thanks guys! That detailed description helped a lot. I will be out there again later this evening and if I have any additional questions, I'll let you know.
I think the reason that I'm having trouble with this is because I have a WS6, so my airbox is on top of the radiator cover. I never really checked out a non-ram air set up to see where the intake and filter were! I had a general idea, but didn't see a way to route it there.
Thanks,
Mark
