ouch...at least it was the trans and not your new turbo motor...but yes, i think mike won.

When it goes back, im feeling close to 800rwhp though considering we have very similar motors, cam, etc...say 788rwhp

The 108k mile T56 went BOOM on my way to the dyno. I was cruising along at 65mph in 6th gear and out of nowhere came the sound of a shotgun. The back tires locked up, then freed up again. I pulled off to the side of the road and the rears locked up for the last 20 feet or so.

The engine starts and runs fine, but if i let out the clutch, even in neutral, the engine stalls and dies. The shifter won't even move into 1, 3, 4, 5 or R.

I got the car home and drained the fluid. It's bright red with tons of metal parts. There was no sign of it being cooked at all. Even when I was waiting for the tow truck, there was no heat in the shifter handle.

So, today's totals came to:

0 rwhp
0 rwtq
1 ctf (catastrophic transmission failure)

Maybe Friday the 13th was a bad idea after all...
THats interesting.. .same thing happened the the 5 speed in my honda. It wouldn't go into any gears, acts like they aint even there... and the car will start but when you go to let the clutch out it dies... tires are locked up also.. crazy crazy...

That just goes to show that turbos aren't as reliable as superchargers.LOL. OK the first shot is out there.

Admit it Jered, you were shifting quick from 4th into 5th and threw it into reverse (and overcame the lockout)

I'm just happy it broke free and spun long enough for me to get slowed down and to the side of the road before it froze up again. I could've seriously wrecked the car this morning...

Anyone have a built T56 for sale? I'm not sure how quick i can get this one rebuilt (if it can be).

That's a bummer Roadie, guess it's the "weakest link" syndrome that caught up with you...could have always been worse I suppose. You'll have to re-think that Friday the 13th philosophy though. I was hoping for some dyno numbers so I would have some motivation to finish my project. Hope you get it back together soon - GOOD LUCK!

Not a good year for f-bodies this year it seems...

Like Will said tho .. better the tranny then an engine failure in any case.

Keep us posted, I wanna know when you get that thing on the dyno. I need some more setups to compare for my own project

There's a freshly rebuilt T56 in my garage now... It's going in tonight. We start tuning end of next week.

Anyone need a huge paperweight?

Roadie, So sorry to hear you've had some "Wilson" luck with the tranny. I was looking forward to hearing your results since I have the same Hotparts kit as you. I'm glad you found a tranny so quickly. Were you 'playing' on the way to the dyno when the tranny gave it up?
How did it feel when you were driving it?
Thanks,
David K. Wilson

Nope... Just cruising along at 65mph in 6th gear (2000ish rpm, -8 to -10 psi according to the eboost2). It just let go with no warning.

Prior to this (a week ago), I had been doing a little part throttle tuning... I saw 13psi in the manifold at 3200rpm at 30% throttle according to the logs I took.

The transmission shouldn't have failed -- there was no reason for it to. I guess we can chalk it up to Friday the 13th, even though I've never been supersticious. Hell, our late model race cars are #13 with a green splash incorporated into the paint schemes and we won 6 feature races last year...

Nice Jered! How'd you get one so quick?

Can you get some video of the car... perhaps idling or cruising around?
