What Do I Need To Run 8 Psi?

just about ready to order my ati p600b supercharger, I've been told it's not going to last long on my stock setup, so my question is....

what all would i need to uprgade to be able to handle 8 pounds of boost with no problem? What are some exact items i need, any special type of pistons rods, crank... I know my rearend probibly wont take it for long but thats the least of my worries. i dont feel like blowing the motor so i might as well build it first. am i going to need injedctors and what #'s rating... i need everything listed

thanks

Re: What Do I Need To Run 8 Psi?

I'd suggest getting the P-1SC over the P600B. It's a newer and better unit, and its bracket is compatible with the D-1SC if you ever want to upgrade. ATI even offers unit upgrades now, so for a price you can even have your P-1SC converted into a D-1SC down the road. You won't have to worry about tapping into your oil pan (as you probably know, the P-1SC is self-contained, and does not require oil feed and return lines).

The price difference isn't much, but I think it's worth it. If you've got plans for the future, I'd suggest going with the Twin Intercooler system now, too. You can get a "Stage II" system (same as the entry level system, just with the better IC system) and run the same amount of boost to start.

Granted that all takes more money, but it saves you in the long run if you plan to upgrade anyway. (For example, the twin intercooler system will cost you well over a thousand dollars, and you won't get much for a used ATI 2 Core). Just food for thought.

As far as your questions on the engine build, there are plenty of threads in this forum regarding good blower motor builds. I would at least go with a set of forged pistons and quality rings. JE or SRP for example make good forged blower pistons. If you lower the compression with a dished piston, that will help as well. As far as the crank and rods go, that depends on what kind of power you want to make. For 8 PSI on an engine that isn't going to be cammed with high flowing heads, you'll probably be fine with the stock crank and rods. Rebuilding the bottom end would still be a good idea though. New bearings, etc.

Re: What Do I Need To Run 8 Psi?

I just want to get it charged and live with it. I'm sure it will be plenty fast for me. i just want it to be safe to drive and able to take WOT everytime. when the time comes down the road i'll probibly turn it into a 383 and keep it around 8 psi. so i should be good with a set of forged pistons and rings?
I read that diched pistons hurt performance when you unsupercharge the motor. they only make power if it stays charged.

thanks

Re: What Do I Need To Run 8 Psi?

im thinking about the future for forged interals too. im running 6 psi and it is more than fast enough for me (im an adrenaline freak). but im also a road racer before drag racer.

keep me posted on what you do for you motor. i dont want to go bigger with the motor like a stroker or anything, i just want a reliable blower motor like you. just forge the internals and lower the compression, probably up the boost to 10-12 with a simple pulley change after the compression drop and call it good.

good luck.

Re: What Do I Need To Run 8 Psi?

Well i think i changed my mind. I think i'm going to go with the P1SC insted of the P600. I never liked the idea of taping my oil pan. And i think i'm going to go with the stage 2 kit with the twin intercooler setup. In my area in ohio it doesn't get really hot and i have 94 octane gas available. should that make a good enough chance that i can run 8psi with little to no problems for a while? I know it's not going to be as safe as stock but i don't care, i want to build the motor in a few years, or this year if i get the funds

8 #'s of boost
twin intercooler
Ohio weather
93 or 94 gas
madz28 tuning
colder plugs

sound like it's safe enough to run without changing internals yet?
My car is making somewhere between 290-300 rwhp now so what should i expect to get out of it after its charged? 450?? close to that? I run mid 13's now, should i see high 11's if all goes as planned?

Re: What Do I Need To Run 8 Psi?

I wouldn't go with more than 6 PSI until you upgrade the pistons and rings. If you run 8 PSI of boost on a stock motor that's even in good condition, you're playing with fire. Unless you're willing to accept that you may need a rebuild in even just a few months, stick with 6 PSI for now. Then when you rebuild the motor and upgrade the internals, you can up the boost with a simple pulley change.

6 PSI with full timing should give you roughly 40% more power. That should put you at 400+ rwhp no problem. Believe me, that'll be plenty of fun and you won't have to worry about grenading the thing too soon.

As silly as it sounds, if you're never had a supercharger before, just driving around with the whine is plenty of fun itself. I personally say build it to last and enjoy it.

If you want to email me I can set you up with a kit and help you with any other questions you might have...

Re: What Do I Need To Run 8 Psi?

I just installed a D1sc with twin ic's, 42 # injectors, 25 degrees advance, 8psi lowest boost it will run, Headers, 3" cat back, first dyno run 420rwhp. i think/smell like I'm too rich, 10mpg. My ignition is dying, going to Delteq or Ltcc. Tuner says I can get 500rwhp with alcohol injection.
