What distributor to run with FAST on a BBC?
What distributor to run with FAST on a BBC?
What should I look for in a distributor and ignition box to run on a big block that's going to run FAST engine management?
I don't think I need dual sync, since I won't be running sequential, but is a nice plus if its not a big cost bump.
It would be really nice to have everything from one manufacturer with connectors that plug right from the distributor to the ignition box, and preferably, to the FAST harness.
Thanks!

Re: What distributor to run with FAST on a BBC?
Hope you don't think I'm stalking you, but MSD is probably the defacto choice for many. The FAST harness provides a weatherpak terminal for an inductive pickup distributor for you to crimp on. The FAST box triggers the ignition via a points output. The hall effect harness for the FAST box adds a 12v supply wire for a hall effect pickup. Really the Accel Dual-Sync distributor is reasonable and uses a hall effect pickup which provides a bit more stable timing than a magnetic pickup. (doesn't retard with rpm) . It also allows you to adjust rotor phasing and has an led for both ingition and cam sensor timing. I realize that you're not planning on sequential, but that option would be easy to experiment with.

Which of the MSD or Accel units would I need (Summit lists about 6 pages for MSD distributors, for example)?
Do I have to lock out the mechanical advance, or do I get one without advance at all?
Thanks,
Dave

The MSD 85551 can easily be locked out and is usually the cheapest. Even cheaper than the model without an advance. The Accel is a 77100. The FAST box can handle the ignition advance.
