UP YOUR DRAIN HOLE!! BB vs Standard Bearings

I recently purchased a turbo charger and the one I got was not what I had ordered. The compressor and turbine sizes were easy to check with a set of calipers, but how do you check what kind of bearing you have?

The only way to tell, at least on the turbonetics units, is by looking up the drain hole of the turbo. The standard journal bearings have a plain cast strait down the hole. The ball bearing ones have a hole drilled into this cast material and should have a shiny piece of metal in it.

Always be sure to check this when you get a new turbo! Even though all my paperwork and order forms said BB, the one I got was not.
