Turbo Long Block is ready at last

Well, at long last, the long block is ready. My Turbo engine builder, Mr. Jim Pitcher of Chatham, New York emailed me last night (5/2/2008) to let me know, the Beast is done! Jim is locally renowned for his engine work on shorttrack racers and came highly recommended. Jim is very meticulous and spared no effort on getting everything just right. The file-to-fit rings have the correct end gaps for this turbo application, the former two bolt main has been converted to a splayed four bolt main using ARP studs/bolts. He pressure tested the water jackets after the four bolt conversion to make sure we don't have any unexpected hydration problems after she's fired up. He balanced the entire rotating assembly. He degreed in the custom Bret Bauer Cam, got the valve springs height uniform and set to Brets specs, measured and ordered custom hardened pushrods, bead blasted the heads and intake and clear coated the intake. He also welded a -10 bulkhead fitting onto my Canton Oil Pan for my T76 Turbo's oil return line.

Specifications:

Size: 355 cubic Inch

Block: 2 bolt converted to splayed 4 bolt. ARP Main Studs/Bolts. 4.030 bore.

Crankshaft: Balanced Forged SCAT. 3.45" stroke

Rods: Forged 5.7" H-Beam, ARP rod bolts

Pistons: Custom Forged Diamond

Calculated Compression Ratio: 8.8:1

Heads: Ported Stock LT1 flowing 275/195 at .600" lift thru 2.00/1.55 Stainless valves

Cam: Hyd Roller, Custom Bret Bauer Turbo Spec

Rings: File to fit Total Seal AP series

Timing set: Comp Cams 9-3145 true roller

Fuel Injectors: 60# MotoTrons

Throttle Body: Stock 48mm

Head Gasket: Tried and true FelPro 1074

Oil Pan: Canton Road Race fitted with -10 Bulkhead for Turbo oil drain

Zip code 12037. Fairly close to Albany(about 30 minutes south of there). I told Jose at ForcedInductions.com and Bret Bauer(the guy that designed the cam profile) that, with all I have done, I wanted (at least) 600rwhp. Running 12-14psi, this setup should net that. On the tuning, I contacted Bryan Herter of PCM4Less with my whole setup. He sent an LT1 edit file to me that has everything I need, at least as a baseline, while keeping the MAF and stock MAP. I brought it up in my LT1 editor and it's got a lot of changes so I'm sure It will be close. Bryans done a lot of turbo LT1 tunes.

Iam using a gt 4594 76mm, t6 1.19 housing turbo,( Iam hoping this thing will spool. my hot side is tubular. engine build is a 383 all forged, splayed 4 bolt, ported trick flows, cam is the new xfi 280, Iam hoping its not to big, my builder thinks it will be fine. My goal is 700 rwhp. I am doing every thing my self so the builds not going real fast.

Lol, yeah. He just put one on there to cover it up I guess. I'm a fan of Wix 51060's, not Fram.

Beautiful engine!

Reminds me of mine, way back when, although your's is built much better.

What do you plan to do for tuning?

-Scott.

Thanks! Bryan Herter from PCM4Less provided the base Turbo Tune. I have LT1 Edit and will dial in any refinements after that. I am ordering a PLX wideband kit on Thursday to help me get the fueling just right.
