Re: Trick Flow heads

How well are these heads out of the box? Are there flow #'s anywhere?

Just curious, I am trying to build a FI motor, but it is for Road racing. Not to wild like you drag racer's.

Re: Trick Flow heads

push rod hole alignment was dead nuts on with 1.6 rocker arms, 7/16" studs and standard valve length with standard 7.2" length pushrods, throughout the event the pushrods stay damn near centered in them with the guideplates bolted down.. very nice work and precision engineering! two thumbs up!

What guideplates are you running on these??? I was using the GMPP 14011051 on my LT1 castings and was planning on the same with these heads.

Re: Trick Flow heads

I've never seen AFR's in person but the trickflows compared to the stock casting is unreal.People are getting very good #'s out of them. BTW my heads flowed 301@600 on intake and 221@600 on the exhaust.

Re: Trick Flow heads

I bought mine bare and had Lloyd port them. They are a really nice set of heads and I should have some ET's this weekend if everything goes well. I have them ready to go only have to adjust the valves and put the sparkplugs in to fire it up today and off to the track Friday nite or Saturday. They are super nice heads compared to stockers. later Clint

I bought a set from Trick Flow and had them flowed by Lloyd with 2.05 TF intake valves…. they flowed:

.200 130 78
.300 174 120
.400 220 151
.500 253 158
.600 262 177

After porting and 2.08 intake valves and 1.625 exhaust, they flow 260/185 @ .400, 289/208 @ .500 and 300/218 @ .600 and I’m currently making 481 rwhp N/A with a hydraulic cam.

The jest is I was pretty disappointed expecially with the mid range exhaust numbers from Trick Flow but after porting, I’m very pleased. Even though my application is N/A, I would assume you would expect very good results from a forced induction combo.

Re: Trick Flow heads

Does Lloyd flow those with a pipe on the exhaust side?

No. Just put on the flow bench with clay to seal.

The exhaust was extensively reworked as it was very low comming from Trick Flow. Ended up porting the heads twice adding he larger exhaust valves because even after a first round of porting, they were still low in comparrison to what you see from AFR's.

I'm pretty much jumping for joy with them right now but it took a lot to get there. Also they were one of the first set to be ported so there is also a bit of a learning curve.

Re: Trick Flow heads

Nice #'s Denny, what compression are you running and is that with a LT4 intake? Also about how much duration are you running on the cam@50? 240/250? I cranked mine up last nite with the new Trickflows and it's a beast. Going to the track tonite or tommorow for some ET's. It should be negative DA' tonite but that wouldn't be too fair huh? Thanks! Honestly pretty happy with the overall package as the car has great drivability.

My cam is based upon intended powerband, head intake volume and flow numbers from the heads. It a 245/248 running 1.65 rockers with Morel lifters to get .630 lift. Makes about 470 rwhp @ 6000, peak power is 481 @ 6650 with it still making 470 at 7100 rpm. Was more interested in powerband than a single peak number.

The intake is a LT4 that has been welded and ported three times so there isn’t much even possible to do with it unless you want to get drastic. We still have two inches of vacuum WOT @ rpm which shows it still a weakness and a new intake system is on my shopping list. The current headers are Hooker long tubes which have been port matched to the heads and I’ve already got on order out a set of stepped 1 ¾’s to 1 7/8ths with a merge collector.

The headers should be in next week so we’ll see if they help at all and the intake is a project hopefully coming up soon. Everyone keeps talking about 500 rwhp LTx N/A combo's but with 23 degree heads, but they seem to be few and far inbetween. Kind of like the abominable snowman……Every talks about them, but no one has any real pictures. (real dyno sheets)

Think I may be getting close.

I quite honestly don't remember as I had them thermo coated, ported twice with new valves and springs both times. It wasn't cheap but again, there was a learning curve so I paid the price of being one of the first ones.

Lloyd is very reasonible and you get exactly what he says you get. e-mail him as ask....... he's pretty straight forward.

Sorry about the extra "but" in the last sentence. I was doing great until the phone rang and I hit send before looking to see what I had written.

Hey.............. Stuff happens.
