Trick Flow heads

Anyone in here running these on an FI application yet and get some numbers or track times??? I'm curious to see how these are going to work out seeing as how I'm sitting on a set of bare castings right now.

Lisa -

Your sig has a comma where you meant to put a period; in your ET.

No biggie, I just thought you might want to know.

Re: Trick Flow heads

What bolts did everyone use with the TFS heads? Do you have to use a 12pt or can you use a hex head? Im just wondering because I thought I heard you had to use the 12pt.

Re: Trick Flow heads

He means headbolts, on some SBC heads, the spring diameter used will not allow a 5/8 socket to fit down in-between several of the springs to the bolt head.

Re: Trick Flow heads

I have them bolted up to my motor and used the ARP3601 bolts hex head with no problems on a 1.460" spring with cups underneath and no issues, one thing I noticed on them is that the exhaust port bolt holes are for the standard port SBC header flange where the LTx heads have the bolt hole a little lower, so if you are running headers for LTx motors you will have a ridge where the header flange seats against the head on the bottom of the port floor, this needs to be addressed to gain benefits of the exhaust port flow, if you simply bolted everything up you wouldn't notice, but since I was fabbing up turbo manifolds it was one of the first things I noticed.

other then that, I got the bare castings and fitted them with my own parts, I was very impressed with these heads as the finish and castings were clean, port alignment was right on the money unlike the stock GM manufactured heads, the bolt pockets were perfect and make for a nice fit with the ARM washers. thicker deck, nicely machined oil returns compared to AFR castings, accessory holes were all chamferd and tapped. if F-bodies run a cylinder head temp sensor, you will need a reducer from 1/2" NPT to 3/8" NPT for it to fit which I got a brass reducer from lowes plumbing department for $2.37 fits perfect now. and a 1/2" NPT plug for the other head.

I feel these heads are a superior deal for FI with their 62cc chambers, helps drop CR a bit, the chamber redesign is great, they moved the plug location a little closer to the center and added some more of a kidney shape for better flame propogation, the intake valve is unshrouded a little more then on LTx heads and it comes standard with 2.02/1.60 valve seats. great deal!

My heads were ported (by L.E) before i got them and one thing for sure, if you plan to port them you cant use 1 5/8 headers
The "ridge" wasent really a big problem for us, just had to grind little in the SLP headers.

Outstanding info man!!! I was looking at my castings and initially thought "That coolant temp sending unit hole sure looks big....."

Question for ya: How's the alignment of the pushrod holes??? Everything work out OK there???
