Now don't take what i say as gospel, but anything over 700rwhp is useless on the street. A friend of mine has a 3700#, 600rwhp 86 GN and he can burn DRs at 70mph on the interstate from a 2nd gear hammer with a TH350 trans. The damn thing will get sideways if you're not careful with it, even at those speeds. You'll have to run slicks all the time to keep it out of the ditches. And at 900rwhp, the only streetability you'll get is from a part-throttle-only standpoint. If you are serious about 900rwhp, don't ever plan to get into it full-throttle without some hefty-sized slicks. Public highways just don't provide enough bite. Personally, i think you'll still want to grow in some way or form, so the larger T-88 will give you the room. And one last thing... if you're that serious about HP, why should a few fractions of a second in spool up time scare you away from a turbo that'll give you a lot more power? Little 3L supras run 70 and 76 turbos all the time and make tons of power (even though their spool-up time in 1st gear sucks... but after 1st gear they ****ing roll). With an engine twice that size, i don't see why you don't want to run a turbo a little bit larger.

I'll have to disagree on this one.

I've ran my car at over 900rwhp on the street, on original BFG 275 40 17's and while there was alot of tirespin, it was still completely driveable, and would hook up fine in 4th gear.

That is with the rate set at zero (no rate control).

I could adjust the controller to bring boost in slower and get traction in the lower gears as well.

What mph were you hitting 4th gear Jim? At one point i remember that you were running 3.08 gears. Those gears with a 94+ T56 would hit 120+ in 3rd gear at 6500rpm. Racing a car on the street that wouldn't hook up until over 100mph is kinda useless to me. Keep that kind of power on the track... all it would take is one small chunk of dirt on the road from the local's truck to send you into the ditch trying to accelerate that hard at those speeds.

I know from experience that burning the tires down at 70mph is scary enough, i couldn't imagine trying to drive the ~850rwhp you have on the street at full throttle with anything other than slicks. You are brave.

[edit]- just wanted to add... i'm not saying you can't DRIVE a car with that much power on the street. You could drive a pro-stock car on the street if you were so inclined. I'm just saying that "releasing" that kind of power on un-prepped public highways is very risky and potentially deadly.

3.31 gears. Shifting into 4th at about 105. Shifting into 5th at about 145.

Imo, it's not hard to drive at all once you're used to it.

If you're on a straight stretch of road, and you blaze the tires at 80mph, it takes minimal steering input to keep the car in it's lane.

If I want traction, I reach down to the boost controller and adjust the ramp setting.

For me 650rwhp =

and 850rwhp =

Boost is gooder . That's why I always have mine cranked up

well then i really dont need the 88 since all of my "driving" will be done on the street with the occasional drive on the track.....i might go to the track once a month at the most..just to have a good time....and if the t-76 is enough to waste 98% of the things on the road..then thats all i need..and if it means goin down to a 355 then thats not a big deal either.

keep your T88 and swap out your turbine housing to a smaller A/R this will help your turbo spool up quickly. The larger the area radius the slow it will spool. So change that to a smaller one, you will be fine.

Well first of all, Jim's car with the GT80 DBB hit peak torque around 4600-4700rpms (which means full boost), yes it was the larger A/R, but its also a dual BB unit. Their are some dyno sheets around on his site. You guys quoting a T88 with a .96A/R boosting around 3500....maybe positive boost but not peak..hehe. Also the PTE-88 is only offered in a .96 A/R in the tang-V flavor. A 76GTS with a .96A/R hits consistently around 4000rpm on the peak torque from the cars we have finished. With a 383 you may can lower that 100rpms or so, will all depend on the cam and heads. BTW, the PTE88 is consistently around 400-500rpms slower then the 76GTS to hit peak torque.

As for the PTK car, yes it made 987rwhp, but in that trim it has not been run at the track yet. With the lower boost and previous dyno #'s it has run 153mph, though the ET sucks...lol.
