Think i can get over 900RW with a PT76 and PTK2

Ok im thinkin about downsizing my turbo from a t-88 to a t-76..do you think a 383 is too big for the 76? im looking for a street sleeper and a half...its going to be a forged/billet 383 with AFR190's with about 8.5-8.8:1 CR with the proper fuel system and prolly an A2A.(as big as i can fit). I want to run lowwww 10's possibly a 9..ill be boosting up to 24psi. What do you guys think? oh btw..im going to go witht he PTK hot pipes.

I'm doing a similar motor but my heads don't flow as well as 190's do and I've been told that I should step up from a T-76 to a T-88. I think you're on the right track. Besides if you want a street sleeper you don't want that turbo spooling when you're driving around town

But hey if you're looking to seel your T-88 shoot me an email with some specs on it

Re: Think i can get over 900RW with a PT76 and PTK2

they told me today that a 355 with a pt76 made 987rw at 23psi....and ran 150mph in the 1/4. thats what im lookin for..the 76 doesnt come into max boost until around 4k whereas the 88 comes in at around 44..so..normal streetdrivin..you wont hear anything..unless you get on it..shift like a normal driver(something i wish i was sometimes) and you prolly wont even hear the BOV...and it will still destroy just about any punk kid who messes with me..and will destroy any honda...i got some kid whos runnin 11's in his hatchback..lol

Can you do low 10's, possibly a 9 with a T-76 and 900 rwhp? That doesn't really go together.

I've gone 10.40 at full weight (3750 lb) and 550 rwhp. Also, there are cars running in the high 8's with the PT-76 GTS, so I think high 9's is possible.

I think you'll be set with a T-88. A .96 A/R or somewhere around that on a 383 should spool fairly quickly. I'd venture to say you could hit full boost by 3500rpm starting in 1st gear, maybe lower.

INTMD8 was hitting full boost with a 355 and a GT80 turbo by ~3500rpm, and that was with a huge 1.15? A/R housing. A slightly smaller housing with a larger compressor and being fed by a 383 leads me to believe that you'd be happier with the old T-88. AFAIK, the Q-trim is the most sought after version of the 88 series. But don't quote me on this.

A healthy 383 won't have a problem with a T-88. IMO, they're better matched for a 383 than a T-76. I say this because i see little 3.8L turbo buicks spooling T-62s and T-70s fairly quickly. With that being said, I don't see a ~6.3L engine struggleing with a T88 and moderate A/R turbine housing.

Did i mention i think you'd be happy with the T-88?

the 76 that im trading it for has a .96 A/R too..and i was told it wouldnt come to full boost until around 4400 rpms..and that for mainly STREET "driving" the 76 would be what im lookin for

A T-76 GTS will spool way below 4400 rpm. Trust me.

Call me skeptical, but if you can dig up the old dynographs of INTMD8's single GT-80 setup, you can see he was hitting "the plane" of his torque curve between 3500 and 4000rpm. And that was with a 80 and the large A/R housingn a 355. You have 28 cubic inches more, and with a ~.96 A/R housing i honestly think you would spool almost as quick if not quicker. I can't throw out some equations for proof like many people would scrutinize me for, but just from a "feel" for the turbo world, i think you'd have a killer setup with what's been stated with the T-88. It's JMHO, but anyone is free to prove it otherwise. Jordon Musser has stated before that he wouldn't run anything smaller than a T-88 on a 383, so that speaks something in itself. Size the turbine housing right, and you'll have a monstrocity of an engine in you car. And be happy with it. The T-76 might spool a little quicker but the 88 will run it down hard on top end, even at the same boost. My $.02
