subaru t-30 (off wrx) on a lt1?
subaru t-30 (off wrx) on a lt1?
I was thinking about this idea, seeing as I can get one of these turbos for very cheap. I have always wanted a turbo, but do not yet have the motor forged. Is this a necessary component w/ any turbo? even a t-30 mounted at the rearend?
I know I would need digital A/F, EGT and other guages like that, maybe oil temp too... but other than that and a lot of exhaust piping, a blowoff valve, A tune, injectors, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump, and a mount for the turbo what would I need?
would I blow my motor? or is there any way to mount it in the engine bay?

That turbo isn't big enough to waste your time on unless you add two of them. Think of turbo's and how much hp they are capable of making. That turbo is only capable of moving enough air to produce what, 300-350hp? Your LT1 is already making that much hp stock so it might keep up, or may actually be a restriction.

hmmm, didnt think about it like that, thanks for the reply. I would think w/ more exhaust (on a v8) it would spool quicker or more efficiently than on an inline 4, and if it can make 350hp on a 4, shouldn't it be able to make a lot more (double?) the hp on a v8? or am i going about this wrong?
if I had 2 of them, it would be like 350 hp per turbo... but how would I pipe the turbo back into the motor? that would be a nightmare.

Two of them is possible, but as you mentioned, the plumbing becomes complicated and takes up more space, something 4th gen LT1 cars are lacking.

There is no way to extract more hp out of the turbo than it's physically capable of making (to a point). The turbo only flow's X amount of air. A V8 will spool that turbo quicker yes, but that only means it will meet it's maximum airflow potential sooner. So instead of a 4 cylinder spooling the turbo to full boost at 3500rpm, a V8 could probably do it at 1500rpms. It's not going produce any more power because the turbo is a bottle neck after like 3000 rpms (aprox).
Think of it this way. A turbo is a funnel and your trying to pour water through it. The only way to make the water flow faster to is to enlarge the hole. The only way to enlarge that hole is to get a larger funnel, ie: larger turbo.

And with the exhaust volume of a v8, youd end up spinning the little turbo way beyond it's efficentcy rating to get any real boost - the impellar would probably come apart.

ahhh, thx for the correction. My friend w/ his wrx is getting the STi turbo from a friend for cheap so is selling me his for cheap if I can find a way to put it on my car... it isn't looking very promising though. I have found after market compressor wheels, can this change the properties of the turbo enuff to spool to reasonable rpms? or no?
