What are the spooling characteristics of the turbo? For example, if you are at 2000 rpms in 3nd gear and mash the gas, what rpm do you see 3, 5, and 8 psi.

Also, what are your thoughts on the "lag" the system has?

Tks

I'll let disasm give you his opinion on the car's drivability and performance but here are the test results of exactly what you are asking. Read through the intro so you understand test conditions. These are worst case test conditions started by accelerating past the test rpm and then closing the throttle and letting the car decellerate down to the test rpm than mashing on the gas. Keep in mind that we are at high elevation. Track air here is typically near 10,000' which drastically effects spool up time. Boost will come on way harder at low elevation. Also, clutching the car will spool it quicker.

Also, dyno charts are up on the website. Click on turbocharger kits, LS1 Camaro, and then on Dyno Chart links.

All I can say is WOW, I saw a video of a black camaro and being overseas and out of touch I didnt believe it. And now here it is. I have some questions also, does it use a intercooler, and what does it cost??? Congrats on the BIG numbers.

That vid was my car. It was a friend and i just mess'n around with it when i put the 5# spring in. Didn't think so many would see it
No intercooler, but the methanol kit is just about finished, so 7psi testing soon.

Is the time in your sig with the turbo? because thats not that impressive on a forced induction LS-1, my friend Brian has some 12.9's on a stock LS1. His MPH was around 109-110 I think. The STS is an interesting piece though.

note that his is NOT an LS1

for 5# otherwise stock running 112mph sounds pretty decent to me!

I just ran a test in 3rd gear at 2000 RPM and mashed the gas and it's at 3-4 PSI by 2500 RPM. I didn't push it too much farther than that as the weather here is not very conducive to this kind of testing right now as there is snow everywhere. But it doesn't take very long after it has started spooling to get to full boost.

I don't think the lag is as good as it would be if the turbo were way up in front, but it's not bad at all. First gear is the spool up gear and I'm up to full boost by 3500 RPM. But it just lights up the tires in first gear anyway, I can't put all the power to the ground. I end up letting off or having to shift. Overall I am very happy with the turbo. I get Viper eating horsepower with 28 MPG on the highway.

I have one question about this kit.... Would a Air to Air intercooler with larger injectors and fuel pump replace the methanol injection system if someone wants to run 8-12psi?

How much did you pay for the kit?

You don't necessarily need a front mount intercooler with this kit. This system gets 50% intercooling efficiency with the piping alone and with only about 1/2 psi pressure drop. Adding a front mount cooler will increase the intercooler efficiency (typically about 70% with a good cooler) but it will also add about a 3 psi pressure drop or more if the intercooler isn't real big. This increased pressure drop will cause the turbo to have to make 3 more psi boost than the engine is actually getting which will drive the turbo outlet temps up as much as 50F, which is that much more heat that the intercooler will have to take out of the air charge just to get back to where the system started at before adding the intercooler.

Yes, it will help but it won't be a huge bang for your buck and the effort required to install the cooler. You'll spend more money and time than you would by putting the Methanol system on and you most likely will not see as low of IAT's. At 8 psi we see about 94% intercooling efficiency with the Methanol. (That is nearly ambient boosted temps!) Upgrading the fuel system would be a good investment though, especially if you plan on cranking the boost up in the future.

Please make another ~30 MB video of the setup once the Alky injection system is installed!

Turbocharged

Have you had any experiences yet with larger turbos than the T60-1 in either the LT1 or LS1 kits? If so, please explain any observed differences. Tks!

We are currently working on some higher hp projects with larger turbos, both inhouse and with customers, but no results yet as the projects aren't finished. We'll keep you posted as they develop.
