street/drag superchager

What would be a good adjustible supercharger for my 96 z28, I want to be able to run like 4.5psi ( I drive about 28 miles to work and driving in boost a chunk of the time is killing the mpg)when i drive around and about 18psi or higher when I go down to the drag strip.

This sounds like more of a turbo setup than a supercharger.

Because it's not that easy or practical to switch boost on the supercharger at that range. When the supercharger is set at 4.5psi, you will not feel much of any power while driving normally, and will barely feel it when romping at 6000rpm on the street. Then when you switch over to 18psi with a 10" crank pulley and a 1" supercharger pulley with a Vortech Z trim, you will just end up blowing your engine up. Then when you switch you will need a specific tune for the setup and fuel delivery. Then even trying to built a successful drag 18# supercharger car will cost you $20K to start.

It's pretty tough and almost impossible to do this on a supercharger. On a turbo it is easier, by a push of a buttom or turn of a ****. My friends 510fwhp turbo integra switches between 13psi to 21psi easily. And he will push to 25# for the track.

I started by figuring what system or setup for my car I wanted and what I really could afford and do. Note my car is only at 11#.

good luck

There is one way to adjust the boost on a supercharged car -- with the throttle.

You can stay out of the gas and run 0 boost when cruising to work and get good gas mileage. But, at the track, you can stomp on it and make 10+ psi boost!

Novel idea, heh?

I think the most important thing to think about is what you want to use your car for. Perhaps a head/cam swap would be of greater benefit to you.
