Your Ideal 383 cid Supercharger Build (LT1/LT4)
Your Ideal 383 cid Supercharger Build (LT1/LT4)
I'm once again narrowing down my 383 cid build and need your input.
What would your ideal 383 LT1/LT4 with a superchager (ATI/Vortech) include bottom and top end? I'm looking for a reliable/safe build that would not be a daily driver (maybe 30 miles a week tops) and capable of producing high 9 second passes.
The current race weight with me in the car (convertible) is 3,917lbs. Pretty heavy, but I am working on the weight issues and should be down to approximately 3,550 - 3,600 total with me.
The engine/superchager will be stuffed in my 1997 droptop Z and already is equipped with a manual shift TH400, Yank ProThruster 4,000, and a spooled Moser 9".
I'd like to put together a listing of all the components for this build and have the work started in the next couple of months.
A consideration for this build is Golen Engine Service. I only know of one person who had a build with them....so if there's any input on them, please share your experience in this thread or email me privately at - webmaster@f-bodyhideout.com
The car was running a converted OBDI, but I'm also considering swapping into an Accel DFI management system as I've heard nothing but good things of it.
Budget - This at the moment is not a concern... I would just like your recommendations on what you would build if you could have the LT1/LT4 383 supercharged setup of your dreams. I can work on the money side after I know what components are recommended.
Any input on this would be greatly appreciated. Nice to hear from people who have already "been there and done that".

Ok you have few things covered that are going to help you.
TH400
Moser 9-in
DFI
As far as engine goes I would look at going 9:1 compression. If you decide that you want to add a little shot of nitrous than I would recommend going 8.5:1. I would suggest talking to a person like Brett Bauer (SStrokerAce) or Phil at Advanced Induction concerning a nice heads and cam package.
You are going to need a good fuel system. Depending on what hp range you are shooting for I would probably go with either 72lb injectors or 83lbers. Also you will need a good fuel pump to support your setup. If you want to go with a big external pump than I would recommend going with a Weldon pump. I have owned an Aeromotive pump and in my opinion they are garbage. Another option would be to go with twin intank pumps.
The next thing you need to decide is what head unit you are going to buy. If you are going with a Vortech than I would recommend going with a YS-trim. If you want to go with an ATI than I would go with an F1. As far as intercooler goes I would recommend going with a Spearco front mount. I would not waste my money on the ATI twin high flows.
This should get you started.

"IDOXLR8", thank you for taking time out to send some input on this.
It's always nice to get input from others who have either been there and done that or from others who are more knowledgeable.....hence.....message forums.
Again, thank you for your input on this setup as I'm wanting to close the loop on the entire build soon.
I'll be heading out to Okinawa, Japan for 6 months and I'm trying to get the engine build started with a compnay prior to my departure.
Hopefully I'll also get some good feedback, just like yours, in regards to the bottom and top end.
Ahhh....and yes, a little 75hp shot of 'squeeze' would be a nice addition to cooling things off a bit.

You may also want to do a search in the Forced Induction forum.
