stock map sensor/2 bar map?

a board member said that Alvin from pcmforless said if you are running the delteq system you need a 2 bar map. i'm running 8lbs boost by the way from my s-trim. my car has been giving me starting issues since the delteq, could this be the reason why? new opti with zero miles on it. plugs are brand new ngk tr6's Pete from delteq sent me another delteq opti unit and the car fired right up,then i shut it off and tried again and it had a hard time starting. coils all spark good and so do wires. fuel psi is correct. i thought the stock map sensor was able to understand the extra air pressure up to like 12-15lbs?

I only do them for 92-93 LT1's and its a headache in a half. 2.5 years in doing it and i'm still learning new tricks to make them work better.

I have zero experience with them in the 94 + cars.

A single bar MAP won't cause your problem. I'm running a delteq with an 8psi procharger with no problems. Did you go through the trouble shooting guide for the Delteq?

Re: stock map sensor/2 bar map?

stock map sensor can;t read boost so you have to run a two bar..

You have other problems besides retarding timing in boost.

yes thats what my dyno tuning is going to fix saturday. you need a 2bar or 3 bar map because- stock map senosr can't read boost and has different volts, the other map sensors read boost and send out the right amount of volts to the computer.

You don't need a 2 bar with your set up. You can just use the stock MAP and just adjust the timing at WOT since this the only time you will see boost. With the bypass valve setup on a centrifugal supercharger you will not see boost at part throttle.

Re: stock map sensor/2 bar map?

Very few people have bothered to try and get a 2-bar MAP sensor up and running with the stock PCM. It is not clear that it accomplishes anything and is a lot of work. For sure, there are theoretical advantages to having an accurate MAP reading. But the way these cars are operated, they are typically at WOT or not seeing seeing significant boost. So, it really doesn't seem to be an issue.

I don't know much about the Delteq, but I don't see what the MAP sensor would have to do with it. Someone care to explain?

Re: stock map sensor/2 bar map?

Hes confusing the nessisity of having a 2 bar map sensor with a ignition system that can't use a traditional boost retard like BTM.

If I got a guy with a 93 that has a delteq i'll push the 2 bar stuff because I can run a specific timing per specific pound of boost.

otherwize you run a fixed timing at ATM and up.

Re: stock map sensor/2 bar map?

so from what you guys are saying is that, i would be better off just having the tuner set the timming and retard boost in the stock pcm? the stock pcm doesn't read boost or know what it is so how can i retard the boost or will retarding the timing do that? with the delteq system i could no longer use the MSD BTM unit to retard timing/boost. Ion said he retarded the timing last summer, but i'm still going to have the tuner check it out.

as for my BOV, i have the maf sensor in the stock location and have the BOV mounted in the same place vortech has the BPV mounted. its just for the noise factor, sounds sweet. as for you saying i won't see boost at part throttle. what do you exactly mean. with a blower depending on the pulleys you don't see boost till higher rpms.
