Seafoam Q's

So my turbo install is underway as some of you already know. Turbo is all bolted up etc etc etc. Still need to tap the oil pan. I have a case of castrol 10-30 and a new bosch 3510 filter sitting in my room. The plan is to tap the pan with the current oil inside (still relatively clean). Drain the current oil and refill (keeping the same filter). Let the car idle for 30-40 mins, then proceed with a proper oil change.

The question: I was thinking about throwing some seafoam into the "flush oil" but am worried that all the stuff that the seafoam breaks down will get into the new turbo since it will be on the old oil filter. After i tap the pan and put in the "flush oil" should i put a new filter on just in case or leave the current one on?

Am i being paranoid?

So performing a flush with:

New large capacity filter
Clean oil
Seafoam

"shouldnt" harm anything inside the new turbo?

Maybe instead of just idling the car i will leave the "flush oil" in there until i get a few miles on it.

I just did this on my wife's car. I changed oil & filter, added it to the crankcase, intake and gas tank. I drove it 100 miles and changed oil and filter again. That 100 mile oil was dirty when I drained it and am glad I did so.

The problem with running the same filter, is not the seafoam, the problem will be the OIL SHAVINGS IN THE OIL FROM TAPPING IT ON THE CAR

Many people will say "just tap it on the car", but I cant agree with ^^^^ enough.

Do it properly and pull the pan. After all this time and effort, would you *really* want to mess up the turbo (and/or motor) cause of shavings? Might as well get it cleaned out and get new gaskets on there. They arent expensive.

well, tapping it on the pan isnt too bad. Just pack the flutes with a TON of vaseline, and flush the pan out with BRAND NEW OIL a couple times.
Then install a magnetic drain plug, and you'd be fine.

But, never would i suggest running the car with the oil that was in it when you tapped the pan. Thats just asking for trouble.

Yeah, that really is.

Maybe I'm just messy, but whenever i have to tap things I make a terrible mess every time.

Then again, I also kinda look at it saying after the thousands of dollars on the turbo kit and hours to install it, the engine, etc etc. A couple hours to pull the pan and tap it really is just a quick and cheap job in comparison... to be *sure* everything is okay.

Im ok with the shavings that will inherently get into the pan. I think a majority of the chips will be carried out of the pan when i first drain the used oil. With a new filter and clean oil anything that the pump sucks up "should" be taken care of.

My REAL concern was the seafoam unlodging alot of oil deposits. On the ls1tech sticky it says the oil will get thick from deposits etc... hopefully the new filter keeps anything harmful out of the tubo.

Keep the sugestions coming thou
