thats such bs...

i got a STS, blew my motor, and now getting it rebuilt....

if i got a PTK and all that other crap i need (IC, turbo etc) **** would have ran me almost 6 grand..... i paid 3500 for my STS back then brand new, and my motor cost me bout 3500... for the price of PTK almost, i got myself a forged motor, and a turbo kit

then PTK ppl are cheap too...
they should all buy ferraris, add 13 more cylinders, and then put 4 turbos on it, and then run it..... you get what you pay for right?

That was exactly my point. All I was saying was that there are many many more things to worry about when going forced induction besides installation cost. And if that was something that concerns you then maybe you should reconsider. If you cant afford a few hundred on installation then how are you going to afford that $3500 rebuild. How about installation of the rebuilt motor...how about tuning....how about a new transmission or new clutch...how about some new tires....

Re: Rear Mounted Turbos

when **** breaks, and u got nothing to drive you to work or school, you fix it

how? i dunno apparently i did, and even got me a 05 civic on top of everything

things in life always just work out somehow, how? i have no fricking clue...

like I said, if i got the PTK my car would have been down for a year instead of 6 months though... buying a car like this is gunna cause money anyways... having a turbo or not...

I know of ppl putting a cam in their car, and they spin a bearing or something...

always remember

fast, cheap, reliable... you can only choose 2

apparently I chose fast and cheap... but the extra money i saved i'm fixing the car as it breaks

Re: Rear Mounted Turbos

Some cooling medium is always needed. A PTK doesnt need a FMIC as much as a STS doesnt. You can use methanol on both. Look at Rich Krause, running his convertible to I think nearly 700rwhp with no intercooler. Nothing new really.

Engines are also up in the air.

Seal - my rebuild is costing me more then twice what yours cost you. Scary! It all depends on what you're looking for.

PTK does require removing the passenger side cooling fan. However, even sitting in traffic with the A/C on in my lt1 when it just had a meziere, uncoated headers and a catback - the fans never turned on. Coolant didnt get warm enough, which pleased me.

There are many ways around this cooling issue. Aside from better ducting, mounting the condenser and radiator with fewer gaps and less distance between them, to using an electric water pump, to using different thermostats, to perhaps using different coolant...

One reason Evans NPG+ appealed to me was that it actually likes running a little warmer. As long as you dont knock or blow gaskets, increase coolant temperature! I have a few other tricks "up my sleeve" on the heat issue as well. I'm not worried at all.

Re: Rear Mounted Turbos

woah, what are you doing to yours?

i was doing a 'budget' rebuild, but I ended up going all out with it...

forged 355 wisecos, scat forged rods, eagle forged crank, 2.080/1.650 ported heads, a big cam, hv oil pump

all the labor is around like 2300 and parts cost me like 2000 almost

damn, i spent 4300, not 3500 i didnt even know lol thats alot of money

(i didnt even know i had that much money **** lol)

Re: Rear Mounted Turbos

With good springs and good rockers, new R lifters, pushrods, studs, a cam, that can hit $850-$1000 right there.

Ported AFR Heads with good valves, ported lt4 intake manifold, ported 58mm TB, canton pan, high flow oil pump, 4340 rotating assy, 4 bolt main conversion, gaskets gaskets and more gaskets, and then the side stuff - a meziere water pump, polished valve covers, powdercoating to parts, new sensors and wires etc.

It adds up wayy too fast once you get the nit-picky details. A good set of ported heads will set you back $2000, then the valvetrain another $1000-$1500 with valves, guides, seals, cam... then the block prep, then machine time, 4 bolt converstion, rotating assy, engine assembly and blueprinting. It really is a lot of work.

<OBSERVATION>: Location: Albany, NY, USA Average temperature=47 degrees

My average here is about 30 degrees warmer and my average low is only 8 degrees cooler than your average high. I love the cooler weather like now (40-50 degrees) when I have a SC vehicle like my Bonneville! Hopefully I'll be able to turn up the boost on the TA next year about this time.

Re: Rear Mounted Turbos

Very true. But that applies to sitting in the car in traffic in direct sunlight on hot pavement when the ambient is 90 degrees. I understand in Florida when it gets very hot and humid the rules are different - but a few degrees here or there will only make a minor difference.

After installing the Meziere, my car went the full summer with many days at 90 or above (some humid) and plenty above 80. The fans never kicked on. For a while I thought they were burned out or I had lost a relay or something.

Also I plan on finally transferring college this fall, and my choices are in Florida, Virginia, Georgia, and South Carolina. I'd like to drive my car every day it runs and not deal with snow anymore. So I have thought about the additional heat nice and hard.

And yes, boosted cars on 40-50 degree days are a blast. Today though my truck said it was -1F on the way to work, and a high of 17F.

Re: Rear Mounted Turbos

my heads were done by CFM in IN, and they're pretty big heads, i actually posted if they were too big on here....

I have all my valvetrain stuff from my NA motor thank god.... didnt go with electric water pump, cuz i'm just scared if the fuse goes or something....
the block is a ybody lt1 block, so its a 4 bolt already... studs were included in the price i added up there....

i have very low mileage stock lifters, so i'm reusing those.... had to spend another 450 bux today on gasket/header bolts and timing chain/gear set...

i gotta sell my soul now so i can pay my bills

Yea, having a sports car has undesireble effects on the wallet. But it's just so hard to refrain from buying that next mod....
