Rear Mounted Turbos

Not sure if anyone has seen this yet, but http://www.ststurbo.com/ they make a rear mounted turbo that runs cooler and produces more than a traditional turbo, and takes no space in the engine bay... and is less than 4k

Cooler? Yes. Produces more then a traditional under-the-hood turbo?

No. Physically impossible. This is old news...

Re: Rear Mounted Turbos

The STS kit bothers me with their prices.... you pay over 3 grand for a kit with long pipes, a turbo and wategate, and a trick oiling system. If you can buy their oiling kit or fab your own, you could find a local shop with a mandrel bender and reproduce a kit like this for less than $2,000, if not $1,500. Price the parts and labor yourself, you'll see what i mean (i already did). The piping doesn't cost much, and a newb could figure the fab work out with a little research on the net. If the kit was closer to $2k, then i would call it a deal. But for what you get, it's not worth the money.

OTOH, if you're serious about turbocharging, get the PTK kit. Sure it's more, but you get what you pay for. Not to mention better performance, options, and a TON more potential. Spend $$$ once, and do it right with a front mount kit. It hasn't been done this way for decades just for ****s and giggles.

My $.02

I agree with you, I don't think it should sell for 4 grand, 3 grand sounds more along the lines, of a better deal, I know as far as trubo kits go its cheap, but there reall isn't much there, I'm assuming they make a good profit on this setup. I don't think 2 grand is reasonable as the did put time and money into making this thing. What bothers me is you must pay another 500 or so bucks for hte meth/alch kit plus a blow off valve I think if you have a manual tranny. These things should be included into the price. I'm still thinking of this kit since it stil is hte cheapest, but I'm gonna wait to see if the price comes down in a year or two.
