Realistic cost of a single T76 turbo setup?

One of my friends who has never fabricated a turbo setup before thinks he can do a complete kit for under $2200. I am wondering if this is even possible. Individual primary headers too..! How much did it cost for the people who have fabricated a turbo setup to build?

For nice quality parts I spent about $1000 more just for parts, no labor.

Mild steel header flanges and bends nice collectors and v-band clamps - $800
Header and crossover coating - $400
Intercooler core - $600
Wastegate - $300-$400
BOV- $250?
Turbo - $1000

If you do stainless headers you can easily spend $2200 just for that.

Would it be realistic for somone who has never built anything like this before to be able to do a turbo setup in his garage? He says he'll use SLP headers...

that depends on the person...if he can weld really well and just a good understanding of what needs to be done then he could get through it. Look at what other people have done to get several ideas. Is he turning the headers upside down, swapping sides or does SLP make universal turbo headers? If he needs help picking parts I would be willing to help out.

You can build a set of headers with flanges out of mild steel for under $400. I bought 1 5/8" tubing fron Schonfelt for $89, bought some collectors and reducers for $45, 3/8 LT1 flanges for $37 (ebay), and the T4 flanges and wastegate flanges, V-band flanges and clamps $120 (Pro turbo kits) = 291. Then I will be coating them myself, so throw another $125 for a quart of satin black (BHK) coating which will do the whole exhaust puts me a hair over $400. It can be done!

Not exactly fair judgement Jordon. You know as well as I do that he may very well have had the idea to use SLP's as turbo headers the instant they were produced. Just because he hadn't done it doesn't mean anything at all, right?
