Pushing the limits, need advice.

im getting a methanol injection setup soon. and was wondering if i would be ok in turning up the boost a few more psi...i am currently running 6-7psi on a S-Trim'd bone stock LT1...stock heads, bottom end, cam, manifolds, everything (minus blower, injectors, fuel pump)

as long as i avoid detonation the motor should take 10-12psi correct? im only planning on running 15deg or so of timing, and use the meth kit to put me around 11.5:1 A/F. rought estimate would be ~450rwhp

if i am totally off base on this its ok, just let me know. my understanding was that detonation and the pressure spikes they cause were what damaged things.

You are off base. At one time I had a 6psi Vortech on an otherwise stock LT1. Ran fine for nearly 10,000 miles. Added water/alcohol injhection and upped the boost to 10psi. It lasted <500 miles in that configuration. Don't do it.

but was it detonation that caused it or what? can the stock pistons just not handle the cylinder pressures?
