problem after fmic

I just did a front mount intercooler on my 95 firebird. I fired the car up and its loading up with fuel. The car is blowing a little smoke and running rough. You can smell the fuel in the exhaust. My mods are in my sig. The car ran perfect before. It is an obd1 car. I had the battery disconnected. The car normally runs crappy when the battery is off. Its never ran like this before though. Any ideas?

Re: problem after fmic

is the maf hooked up?

is the maf in backwards?

is the maf clean?

is the IAT hooked up?

do you have a boost leak after the maf?

Re: problem after fmic

I cant tell if I have a boost leak. When I give it throttle, my boost guage is reading the right amount of boost. I didnt check to see if the maf is dirty. The maf is hooked up and so is the iat. The maf is not in backwards. It is acting like a maf problem though.

I also pulled out my cruise control box and my windshield washer resivoir. I have a th350 trans so the cruise does'nt work anyway. I dont think disconnecting the cruise wiring would hurt anything. I tried plugging it back in but it still does it.

Disconnect the MAF and see if the car runs right.. If it does, then you have a vacuum leak somewhere after the MAF.

Re: problem after fmic

I don't think your problem has to do with your FMIC. Keep looking elsewhere IMO like suggested above.

Re: problem after fmic

I swithched out the maf sensor, still does it. I tested the wiring from the maf, its fine. I changed out all my plugs, still doing it. I scanned the computer and did not find any codes. I unplugged my o2 sensors and it did not change. I checked the iat sensor and it was good. I tested the map sensor and thought I found the problem. At idle, the map is supposed to be putting out 1.2-1.6 volt. Mine is putting out 2.6v. When you rev the car, the volts are supposed to go up. Mine actually went down to 1.9v. Now I dont know how its suppose to act with a blower. I changed the map out with one off a friends car and the car was still doing the same thing. I'm pretty much at a loss. Anymore help would be greatly appreciated. The car starts fine but the idle is choppy. Then as I'm reving it, it is stumbling the whole way through the rpm range, but it does run. ????????? Its loading up with fuel pretty bad.

Re: problem after fmic

i had my bypass mounted too close to the maf and it ran rough. i believe it will cause some bad maf readings because of the turbulent air. just something you may want to check. also your cruise should still work. mine did with the t400.

Re: problem after fmic

The blow off mounted too close to the maf should only cause a problem at idle. When you give it gas, the vaccum turns to boost and closes the valve. My car is having problems from idle up. Any other thoughts, anyone?

Make sure the temp sensor on the water pump is connected good. That will make them run rich.

Not necessarily. I can drive around town all day without getting into the boost. The entire time the bypass/blowoff would be open due to the vacuum, causing turbulence. I dealt with this problem as well.

Re: problem after fmic

Ok, I see what you are saying. I was just saying that when I get in boost, it's still doing the same thing. I also tested fuel pressure. At idle its 40psi, not much change when reving car. My vaccum is 13hg at idle. Both seem to be ok. I'm wandering if this is an ignition problem. Every single spark plug was black and they all looked identicle. My plugs are always clean. I have a accel ignition and it went bad once already. The car wouldnt start then though. Maybe a bad coil?

OK, I just unplugged the maf harness and the car runs fine. Do you guys think there is a leak in the blower plumbing? I dont have time tonight to pull the front end back off. Just wandering what you guys think.
