Need help putting together a shortblock for boost...

I haven't decided yet whether to go 355 or 383, but I need some help on other aspects of the build.

I plan on running around 15-18 #s of boost from a procharger, possibly D1 but not sure yet. Anyways, what length rod do I need to shoot for, 5.7, 5.85 or 6 inch?

Also, what is an ideal piston for such a setup?

Basically if you guys were building a high boost supercharged engine, how would you build it and with what parts? Obviously I am not going to say "money isn't a problem", but at the same time I definately don't want to skimp on the shortblock.

Thanks

The general consensus is that a shorter rod may hold up better than the longer one, so I would choose the 5.7".

I would go with the minimal dish piston / maximum combustion chamber to reach your desired CR. This means if you could pair up a 64cc head/-31cc piston or a 74cc head/-21cc piston I would go with the latter. The piston should be stronger since its thicker.

I am sure other will have their opinions as well. Oh, and I would go with a 383ci.

Why not going with 64cc head with -21cc pistons ? This will give close 9:1 CR.

I am looking to do the same thing this winter, a 383 built for boost only it will be a turbo. I would like to know a real good combo, pistons, cam and heads to make 600 to 650 rwhp.

Okay so let's say a 383

I was thinking :
Callies DragonSlayer Crank
5.7 Lunati Pro Mod Rods
Whatever pistons to make the right CR (What brand do most use with a blower application)
4 bolt splayed billet caps
ARP fasteners all throughout

If I wanted to save some cash on internals, would Eagle parts be okay to go with on the rods and crank?

I already have a good set of LT4 heads. I might get Lloyd to go over them.

Also, what would be a good oil pump and oil pan for this application?

Thanks

There's a reason why a Callies crank is several hundred dollars more than an Eagle crank...you get what you pay for. If you are looking to build a forced induction motor, then you want to buy the BEST parts your wallet can afford. JE has a great choice of blower specific shelf pistons.

A lot of people have had great success with the stock oil pan and pump when running upwards of 600+ hp. I chose to use the Canton oil pan and a Melling extreme duty oil pump.
